1st September 1958: After Sam leaps into the body of Shane ‘Funny Bone’ Thomas, a member of the ‘Cobras’ motorcycle gang, he immediately crashes his bike. Getting on the wrong side of the gang’s leader, Dillon, and the belligerent thug, Mad Dog, Sam is left behind with a sabotaged bike, and forced to walk the next twenty miles to rejoin his comrades at a diner; here he meets the friendly owner, Ernie, a man waiting determinedly for the return of his son, Daryl, who has been listed as Missing In Action in Vietnam. While struggling to hold his own as a biker, Sam befriends Dillon’s girlfriend, Becky, a free-spirited girl obsessed with experiencing the lifestyle of Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road. Then Al tells Sam that he is there to prevent Becky’s murder – in twenty-four hours her body will be found stabbed to death on the beach…
